The first United Nations World Autism Awareness Day! Autism Speaks talks about this unprecedented day. CNN has lots of information on their web site. Join the virtual Walk Now for Autism. As many of you know, my four year old son Lowell was diagnosed with Autism at the age of two. He has had lots early intervention and has come a long way. The people that have come into our lives during his treatment have forever changed us in such positive ways. We still have daily reminders of how different Lowell is, but he has certainly changed us and helped us grow in more ways than we could ever name. He has made me a much stronger mother than I ever thought possible. He has tested my limits and shifted my perspective on this journey called life. I try to always remember that he is who he is and we couldn't love him more!!!!

Kari, isn't EI wonderful?? My three year old has autism and he is now in a great preschool that he loves to go to. He still doesn't talk, but he's working on it. I thank God for his OT for telling us what she suspected. Just remember these important words..."To stim or not to stim, that is the question".
Thanks for spreading the word too!!
Thanks for the links and info! I watched a fascinating show on HBO yesterday called Autism - the Musical. It was so amazing to learn about how autism manifests in different kids. I'm happy to become more aware of a topic that was a mystery to me.
He's a sweet boy as you are a mom.
And he sure is adorable.
I have been teaching Kindergarten in the public school system for nearly ten years now. This year, I have two (mainstreamed) Autistic children in my class. Our experience has not always been pleasant or fun be we have certainly learned a lot from each other. I admit I was very apprehensive at first but with modifications like visual schedules and transition cues -- my students are taking flight!
I have been coming to your site for seven months now. I have also checked out your other site as well. How lucky your son is to have his family and in return how lucky you are to have him. I visit to see your artwork. I admire your creativity and your parenting skills. When do you sleep? denise
Autism awareness has come a long way. I pray it will go much further. I recently saw a program on dogs that were trained for autistic children. It was incredible, but very expensive for families. I never realized how many adults have autism and were never diagnosed. Loving each other for how we are, without judgement goes a long way. thank you
What a beautiful picture of you and your son--the love just glows out of both of you! God Bless.
Smiles, Karen
Thanks for the links. A dear friend of mine has a 10 year old who is has autism. I will send her the url for your blog.
Kari, that photo of you and Lowell is wonderful! He's so lucky to have you and Joe as his parents! -Ginger
Thanks for your post on Autism. It is so great to raise awareness. My daughter has Rett Syndrome, which is an autism spectrum disorder. Thanks for your post, your son is adorable!
What a handsome young man. Blessings to you and your family~
I worked for over 20 years as an ABA therapist. This is the first years I am not working with children with autism. I miss my kids more than I can tell you.
He's such a cutie and how fortunate that God blessed him and you with each other!
