Even though the kids weren't with us, I am always on the lookout for unique kid-themed inspiration. It came in many different forms in new york city. This graffitti girl was so sweet and yet so edgy. The Alice in Wonderland sculpture in Central Park was worth the walk. We stopped on the way to the Wall Stories exhibit of children's vintage wallpaper and book illustrations at the Cooper-Hewitt Center for Design. The little Parisian carousel in Bryant Park was delightful. Loved the holiday touches.
Then we found the amazing top floor of ABC Home and Carpet. My goodness!! Such delightful children's treasures. It all had a European flair in an absolute whimsical land of inspiration.
A world of wonder.

The children's section of the Shabby Chic store in SoHo was full of frilly pastel gorgeousness. More pics of this store later.
A world of wonder.

Whoa, did you go to NYC with your camera just to take a bunch of inspiring photos to make us all really happy?.......'cause that's what it feels like :)
I love the alice in wonderland sculptures....and that pink cabinet... thanks for sharing!
Oh Kari! THESE are the kind of travel photos I LOVE! I could sit for HOURS pouring through photos of obscure and charming off-the-beaten-path places! GORGEOUS! Thank you SO MUCH for being in "blog mode" and thinking of us as you travel!
oh, wow, Kari!! It is so inspiring to look at all your photos from NYC!!! Thank you so much for sharing your trip with us. I can't wait to see what you post each day although, I have to say, I felt like I was gaining weight just looking at your photos from yesterday! ;o) smiles...
Wow, you take us THERE! Love these photos! That ABC home and carpet is really amazing. They worked hard to make that fabulous, clean, well-displayed, intriguing, and it really shows. I bet it was a pleasure to be there.
The ABC Home & Carpet store looks wonderful. You really found some great places to check out. I'm hoping you went to 'Tinseltown' (is that it?)
We're thinking about going to NYC again next year as we only saw the touristy places in '07 as that's where we stayed and didn't have much time.
It's so great to see pictures of one of the best cities in the world. I am itching to go back! ABC is indeed a dreamland and a mecca for design inspiration. Thanks so much for lugging your camera and snapping pictures. We're so glad you did.
Kari what wonderful photos. I love the Alice in Wonderland statues.

How do you all get so many wonderful store pics. Okay, do you ask? Or sneek? Or a little bit of both? Sometimes I ask, but sometimes I'm too intimidated to do so. Lovely pics!
The Alice sculpture is fun, isn't it. When I was there it was completely covered in real children, which was sort of neat in it's own way. I don't remember if I took a photo of it with kids on it or if I waited. I think I only took a photo of it with our two teens. Too bad.
Everything is so pretty! Looks like you had a great time!!
oh my! what awesome eye candy. thanks for sharing. i loved it all.
