One week in September....

One week into Shimelle's learn something new everyday class, I'm lovin' the page-a-day approach. I'm working in 12x12" format and enjoying the scrapbook/journal/daily lesson challenge. Here is what the first week of September looked like for me.

Happy end of summer!

September= nature guide

So begins our daily nature romps as we watch the seasons change from summer to fall. Now surrounded by goldrod and black eyed susan, soon the sumac red will begin to turn brilliant red. Apples are ripe and pumpkins are changing from green to orange in the fields. Autumn will unfold before our very eyes. Nature is surely our guide this time of year. We begin in one of our favorite places, where we pass through forest, marsh and prairie biomes all in one visit.

September= the end of the fair

We went for another round of the state fair before saying good-bye to summer. Lots more kids rides, including Chloe's favorite, the carousel.

Filled our well with inspiration from the creative arts building.

Took in the yummy local colors and flavors.

It sure was fun!

Good-bye fair, until next summer....

September= In my own backyard

Ok, not literally in my backyard...but very near by we have a trumpeter swan refuge. Chloe and I hiked in one morning with my parents and found several swans with their cygnets. What a sight to see them in the wild! What beautiful and large creatures that they are.We also saw a swallowtail butterfly and a bald eagle soaring above to round out the morning. Then back home to my actual backyard, we have our final sunflower bloom for the year.

We have watched the others being pollinated.Then go to seed. What a fun process to witness!I'd love to know what's going on in your backyard on this beautiful September day.

September = apples!

Welcome to a new month...and my favorite month at that! My birthday month (the 20th) and Lowell's too. The start of a new school year (kindergarten for Lowell this year) and wonderfully cool, crisp weather here in Minnesota. I'm starting a new class that I'm looking forward to sharing what I create and hope to post each day here. So much is ripe with possibility and ready to be harvested in September!On a crystal clear day, getting a jump start on autumn, we headed to the apple orchard. This is one of my favorite early fall activities. Taking it all in, behind the lens. Like mother, like son:) Spiraling apples.Happy September! May your month be filled with juicy surprises.
