Just smile!

On Day Fourteen of the {21} day challenge I am reminded that something as natural as a smile can be so transforming..

OUR SMILE AFFIRMS OUR AWARENESS and DETERMINATION TO LIVE IN PEACE and JOY.

The following passage is from Thich Nhat Hanh's book Peace is Every Step. Every word in this book drips with insight.
If we are not fully ourselves, truly in the present moment, we miss everything. When a child presents himself to you with his smile, if you are not really there, but preoccupied with other things, then the child is not really there for you. The technique of being alive is to go back to yourself in order for the child to appear like a marvelous reality! Then you can see him smile and embrace him in your arms.

Lovely, and so true. One of the most important things I do in teaching my music students is to be fully present, and to smile with my whole being. When the kids feel that I am completely there for them, they are ready to learn with their whole selves.
