The everyday extra-ordinary...

After seeing Jenny's post here about being a magazine addict, I knew I was in good company. She was right about blogs fulfilling some of that craving, but there's just something to be said for paging through the glossy pages of an art or a decorating magazine that sends my heart aflutter. That being said, I picked up yet another new magazine this week. This is a special new Somerset publication called Somerset Life. I've heard about this for months and months and have been waiting with bated breath. I finally got my hands on it the other day. Was it worth the wait?
Of course it was!! I love that the focus of the magazine is on how extraordinary the everyday can be. It's about attending to the details; infusing every facet of our lives with beauty and meaning. I feel that that is what blogging has really done for me. I pay much more attention to the details. It has even made me a better homemaker (do people even use that word anymore?!!). I clean up much more than I used to. I pay attention to how I decorate and love to create little vignettes to photography to show you all here. It may sound strange, but I'm much more conscientious about making the world around me more beautiful and inspiring. I change the top of the dresser (below) that houses much of my art supplies every month or so. Since it sits in our dining room which is right smack dab in the center of our house, how it looks affects how I feel and how I look at the world. I love to showcase things that inspire me. I usually have artwork or other goodies that I have received from blogger friends all around my house. Here I have the piece from Pam that I purchased at ArtFest this year right in the middle. I look at this area a hundred times a day as we go about our routine. One could surely see what state of mind I'm in by looking at this space. "Bringing excitement and meaning to your days is as easy as looking at something with a new sense of wonder." ~Somerset Life
The magazine is filled with beauty and inspiration. Three creative blogs are featured Tongue in Cheek , Show and Tell and Heaven and Earth. A wonderful article and gorgeous pictures accompany each blog. Somerset is going to have a special Creative Blogging publication coming out this summer/fall. How do I know? Let's just say, I know... hehe.

The rest of the magazine is filled with eye candy galore. Lots of fun projects to inspire. Also a lovely article by Pam about her birthday banners. I am in no way affiliated with Somerset, I just wanted to pass on the word about this cool new publication.

Have a fabulous weekend!

And I;m even more glad now that I ordered it from ebay 2 days ago. And a creative blogger pub to come too -right up my street. But anyone answer me this? Why are US mags so much more varied and interesting than the Brit ones in the home decorating and crafty/arty front?????

I love your table display. I know that a lot of bloggers show items they have received as gifties or swap goodies but they never show how they are displaying it in their home. I am glad that you did, it really shows an appreciation for those items and the person who sent it your way.

I can't wait to get it. I leafed through it at Michael's yesterday but didn't want to stand in the long line. I love the display of all your goodies!

How Gosh! You're so right! I've taken to clear up a lot more, put ornaments together with intention- not just because they must have a place somewhere ... I long to have really inspiring rooms.. and display what makes me feel happy too. I think I have also re-discovered what I've always loved but given up when I move d to the uK: flea markets treasures and antiques and vintage... it's all coming back in a big wave at me and it is also thanks to you!
And do let me know if you need any more UK magazines!!! Oh! And when is your article going to be in it then....?

Such wonderful sentiments, and I too absolutely agree that blogging seems to make one think of and attend to the details - noticing the beauty in the small things (at least it does me, and I've heard the same from so many others). I'm so appreciative and grateful of every day living, like an awakening - it's a gift to be able to look at life that way, and I feel sad for people who don't. I will definitely look for this magazine. Thanks for the information and for the inspiring words.
