Continuing to enjoy our last week of summer, my parents and I headed out to the Minnesota Zoo today to see the new grizzly bear exhibit called Russia's Grizzly Coast. We had heard it was pretty cool and that you could get close to the bears, but I had no idea what was in store for us today! I've always been facinated with grizzly bears. Ever since hiking in the mountains as a youngster wearing my "bear bell" and on our trip to Alaska a few years ago. We knew we would rather not run into one in the wild, but they certainly have a mystique to them.
Well, this was our chance to get up close and personal. Look at these guys horsing around in the water....
right in front of our very eyes. WOW!

Talk about up close and personal.
This guy was all tired out after his play time.

Arney is doing better.
WOW!!! What cute photos!!! I loved the ones of the bears...don't they look just like cute and sweet pups??? If I saw one in the wild I am sure that I would end up on the evening news as the crazy lady who died trying to hug a bear like it was a pet....thanks for sharing the cute photos! Have a wonderful holiday weekend! :) ~ xoxo ~ Joy
ReplyDeleteIsn't it cool just how close you are to the bears? I know its a great day out - loved my trip there too. The bears, the dolphins and the sea otters......a great place for the little ones and the not so little ones too!
ReplyDeleteKari-Your zoo and fair pictures are just fabulous: cute and pretty and artsy and just plain good. You've definitely got the photography gene! I missed that one.
ReplyDeletetigers and bears...oh my!

ReplyDeleteThe beautiful bear.
Pretty week
Hi Kari,
ReplyDeleteThe best place to view bears is in a safe place! My son was running a cross country course once when he encountered a bear. He stopped, somewhat frightened, made himself look as big as possible and growled!! The bear turned around and wandered off. A group of tourists (on the other side of the stream) were laughing and snapping pictures like crazy. My son was not amused! So again I say the best place to view bears....in a zoo or other safe place!

Oh so sweet!! Want to hug them all!!
ReplyDeleteLions and Tigers and Bears...Oh MY!!
ReplyDeleteWell there were no lions on your blog, but I'm sure that you saw them!!
i have not been to the zoo in a while. definitely have to go soon.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like a rather nice zoo. I was just at the San Diego Zoo with my kids and granddaughter and obviously, world class exhibits. My favorite part though was probably all the beautiful botanicals. I think I took more photos of plants than I did animals. Well, maybe I took the most photos of my granddaughter, but after that, plants. They have yearly passes and it's only a ten minute drive down the freeway from their home, so they go often.
ReplyDeleteFabulous photos! I feel like I went on a mini vacation myself!

I love the Minnesota Zoo - you are right it is more like a park with a lot of space for the animals. I am hoping to move back to Msp/St Paul soon and seeing your blog post makes me even more anxious! The zoo is great and so is the State Fair. Went there a few years ago when I was home.
ReplyDeleteThe fair, and then the zoo! Wow, how are you holding out with the Convention so close? Hope you are well!!!
ReplyDeleteKisses and Hugs!
The bears are adorable!!! Love the new banner too!!
ReplyDeleteI keep hearing the bear exhibit is fantastic, now seeing your pictures, I'll have to pack up the kids and check it out. Thanks.
