Inspire me...

There are definitely some perks to being a librarian. I've always been a big fan of the illustrations in children's books. Then when I came across the book All Kinds of Families by Mary Ann Hoberman and illustrated by Marc Boutavant at work a few weeks ago, I knew I had found something truly special. Marc's illustrations inspired me to no end. They were retro, yet whimsical and warm and I felt as Elsie said, it was "magical and beautiful". So I had to see more. My amazon order just arrived the other day with these three books. All Kinds of Families
For Just One Day by Laura Leuck and Marc Boutavant. And the best sticker book ever, Around the World with Mouk by Marc Bouvatant.

The book Pen Play also features Marc and many many other wonderful children's illustrators. I hope you enjoy his work as much as I do! Who's inspiring you lately?

I would think one of the cool things about being a librarian would be getting first pick of any "unloved" books that were getting the boot -- or is that not allowed? I also think it would be most awesome to get to pick which books were to be bought!

Kari you always find things that fit your style... how lucky you are... I guess you know the right places to look! I love finding an author/illustrator whose work inspires me... I keep my eye open for new works from them. Looks like you found several great finds.. must be like Christmas at your house!!!

I thought that being an Art Teacher was the perfect job... I might have to think again... Have to check this illustrator out. Love your blog like always.

I love children's books. These illustrations remind me of Richard Scarry(sp) for some reason. As a retired first grade teacher I have read many children's books to my classes...one of the highlights of my day.
Cheers,
Mary

My 4 year old thinks we go to the library 3 times a week for her reading needs-it's really for mama's addiction to children's books!

I've always love children's book illustrations. Since I was a child! Lately I've been admiring the illustrations from vintage children's books, and even made my Christmas thank-you note cards featuring a lovely winter play scene from a vintage book. Marvelous!
