For the love of Home....

Thanks so much for all the positive feedback about my new blog look and 500 posts. I am so gracious that you all come back to read my blog day after day. I really enjoyed reading about your alter egos, thanks so much for sharing. What creative divas I have reading this blog:) I will take entries in the comment section on this post until Friday for the giveaway. I came across this book online and then ordered it and it came yesterday. Wow, is all I can say. Soooo much inspiration here. I love home decor magazines and books, and books like this with some food for thought as well as the eye candy just send chills up my spine. Love it!! This book is by Anita Kaushal and focuses on raising children and decorating and the intersection of the two. It's based on the philosophy that it is possible to create a home that is both beautiful and nuturing. It is chock full of real homes, inhabited by real people and they are gorgeous!!

"Our home-life can have a huge impact on who we are; as adults it affects our daily lives and moods, and for children it influences the kind of people they will become."

I loved this page in the book about childhood memories. I had to immediately get my Snoopy doll from childhood for the picture. The quote in the book is from The Velveteen Rabbit. My sister read a quote from this same book about becoming real at our wedding, "Real isn't how you are made," said the skin horse. "When a child loves you for a long, long time, not just to play with but really loves you, then you become real." Do you still have your favorite childhood toy or doll? I'd love to hear about it! When at Anthropologie the other day I came across a book about just this called Dirty Wow Wow and Other Love Stories: A Tribute to the Threadbare Companions of Childhood by Cheryl Katz.

I love books that take a sociological and philosophical look at the concept of home. This book is broken up into four chapters: Live, Share, Nest, Bare. Beautiful!

Speaking of home, Karla's Cottage is having a "What do you love about your holiday home?" blog party tomorrow (Wednesday, Dec. 12th) on her blog. Lots of fun giveaways and a chance to show off those gorgeous holiday decorations that you've been working so hard on. I'd love to hear about what you love about your home and what it means to you.

That book looks gorgeous! - I want to get a copy now. I love reading about that kind of stuff - I'm totally into the relationship between people, particularly children, and their physical environment.
