New art from the nest...
Beyond the images of ArtNest I shared in the post below, I thought I'd be brave and show you the art that I created over the weekend. I find that creating art in a group atmosphere like we do at a retreat or class is much more about the process than the product. I literally almost freeze up when I am creating with so many others around me and my eyes wander off so easily and get hung up in the work of others. I remind myself that I am learning new techniques and must give myself the space to try them, experimenting and not get fixated on the end result.
Mati Rose gave us this poem at the beginning of class. It touched me so much that I used it in the background of the yellow bird piece above and the foreground of the patchwork piece that I created in her class.
I attempted to draw a picture of my children and another of me looking lovingly at them in Kelly Rae's class.
I created this fun and funky jewelry in Jane Wynn's class. I used an image I had from Elsie Flannigan.
Unpacking my suitcase, looking through my new treasures acquired on the night we exchanged "trades" was definitely the most fun.
This wonderful heart is from Beth Quinn.

All of these unique pieces of art, created by friends I adore, are bits of the nest that I will treasure forever.

Back from the nest!!!
I have landed back home in my own nest, forever altered by the amazing generosity and creative spirit I just experienced at ArtNest. I am finding it hard to put into words, so I will begin with pictures. Kelly Rae captures in words what I cannot, with her take on the nest and many of my photos on her blog. As I unpack and gather my thoughts, I will add to this tapestry of friendship, support and creativity magnified by 30 amazing women! At the end of this post I have listed the blogs of many of the fabulous women I met in the mountains of Utah. I thought you would enjoy the variety and unique talents they have to share.
The setting was a cabin in the hills outside Heber, Utah. Gorgeous, chilly sunshine each and every day. What a view!
The amazing team of Julie Collings and Candice Elton (far left and far right), the nest "mothers" and our wonderfully talented teachers (left to right) Mati Rose, Jane Wynn and Kelly Rae.
This was our "nest" for three full days of art-making. Bliss!
The first class was with Kelly Rae Roberts. She taught so many fun background techniques and walked through her process for face-making for those very reluctant drawers (like me!).

The finished pieces were phenomenal. My two are on the bottom left. I painted my children standing together and another of myself watching over them.
The second class was with Mati Rose McDonough. I love her style and was so excited to learn her tricks and techniques. She was wonderful!
Karen's fabulous painting incorporated a small image of a girl from vintage wallpaper that I gave her. She celebrated her birthday with us at ArtNest!
Loved the nature theme to everyone's work.
Here I was, giddy with delight to spend time with these talented and sweet ladies!
The third day was with Jane Ann Wynn. The entire class was new ground for me, so I guess that's why I didn't take any photos, I was listening too intently to the instructions. I thoroughly enjoyed cutting metal pipe, soldering and using plexiglass and resin to make jewelry. I cannot wait to try this more! I will take a photo of my finished piece. Utah, here I come....
I'm off to Utah in the morning for four fun-filled days of art with some of my favorite gals at ArtNest!! My little scrapbook is ready, with all sorts of odds and ends all sewn together to tuck in bits and pieces from the trip.
These ladies are ready to be traded off in a mass art "swap". They are mini-books like the one above filled with vintage paper. Complete with bags embellished with spring finery. 
A couple of gifts for the amazing duo of Candice and Julie, our "mother birds" at the nest.
Piles of goodies to sell at the art sale.

Totally crazy....
Raise your hand if you would stand outside for an hour outside someone's house that you don't know, on a cold Minnesota day, with the temperature hovering around 10 degrees? All for an estate sale that you have no idea if there is anything good.
The person I stood with for that hour is my estate sale partner-in-crime Jennifer Murphy who made it much more tolerable by recounting her recent trip to Rome and other delights. 
Still sound crazy?
These were some of my treasures. 
Totally worth it!

The morning after....
We had a nice, mellow Valentine's Day with the kids. We went to my parents house for a great meal last night which included chocolate and wine and homemade raspberry pie. Then we woke up this morning, the morning after. The flowers still looked gorgeous and put a smile on my face.
My parents took the kids for a bit and Joe and I had a wonderful breakfast together. Such a treat! 
I found some fun estate sale treasures.
I bought an entire mini-tree full of these little cotton people. Some are more Christmassy than others. These little ladies captured my heart. Anyone know the age of something like these?
Lots of beautiful vintage paper napkins and notecards.
